Misfits @ o2 Islington, London

The Danzid days are long gone… Thankfully!
Jerry Only is the only original member still in the Misfits, and he is more vital, entertaining and seems to be having way more fun onstage than Danzig has had in atleast a decade. Jerry’s voice is not as good as Danzig’s but it really doesn´t have to be to bring the songs across.
This is a special night indeed since the band is performing their classic debut album “Static Age” in its entirety, in album sequence.

The first song of the evening is of course “Static Age” and it is an ok rendition, watching Misfits live is always a treat but
the first sign that this is going to be a night to remember is when they rip into track number four, a lively version of “Last Caress” and the crowd goes absolutely mental! After the song, Jerry tells us -I recorded that album when I was only 18.
Impressive indeed since the song is a classic.
After that they went straight on to play “Return Of The Fly”, inspired by the 1959 movie by the same name. By this time we are eating out of Jerrys hands and Misfits prove why they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Jerry, who is wearing a Captain America shield t-shirt, screams -THIS goes out to you f*****s in London! And the band kicks off “Hybrid Moments”. The lyrics “If you’re gonna scream, scream with me!”, have never been truer as practically everyone in the venue sings along.
-My son is filling in for uncle Dez, but we´re keeping him.”, Jerry Only tells us between songs. Jerry Caiafa II does a great job and they play probably the best version of “Teenagers From Mars” that I have heard from the legendary band.
When they are finished with the “Static Age” album we get a greatest hits from the rest of their albums and when it´s time for
“London Dungeon”, Jerry Only hands over the bass playing to the band She Demons Alicia Vigil.
She´s obviously really enjoying herself on stage and the male part of the audience seem to be enjoying having her on stage as well.

We also get some great news, -We have been doing it for almost 40 years now and we are going to record a new album!
Great news indeed, I can´t wait to listen to the new album!

“American Psycho”, “Speak Of The Devil”, “Fiend Club” and “Hunting Humans” are played through with a ferocious energy.
The setlist is an impressive behemoth of 28 songs and time flyes by all too fast. “Die, Die My Darling” puts Metallicas version to shame and again practically everyone in the venue sings along to the haunting refrain.

The last song of the night is “Halloween” and Jerry rips the strings from his bass like they were made of yarn and not sturdy bass strings.
For your typical band this would have been it, they would have walked off the stage and everyone in the audience would have left,
but what happens now is the lenghtiest signing session that I have ever seen!
The trio signs, shakes hands and poses for pictures for what seems like an eternity.
