Review:

South Coast rockers Kodiak Jack release a 4 track EP ‘Scars’, recorded n Aubitt Recording Studios, Hampshire with Rob Aubrey (Dragonforce, Spock’s Beard) as producer. Winners of Best Band in the Portsmouth Guide Awards 2015, they took to the ‘Hey Joe’ stage at this years Isle of Wight Festival to film the video for the single ‘Only the Good’. They will headline Southsea Stage at Victorious Festival and later in the autumn they will support Gun at Talking Heads. Their debut album ‘Your Death:My Glory’ was released in 2011 and their second  album ‘Alhambra’ was recorded in Sacramento in 2013.

The single ‘Only the Good’ is a powerful yet dirty riff-fest, plenty of energy and vigor, gravelly, sexy vocals and thumping beats, singalong chorus with a filthy groove running through the middle. Title track ‘Scars’ builds nicely to a solid rock song, infectious melodies and warm, rich tones to the vocals, flowing between highs & lows with anger & bitterness laced lyrics. ‘Sirens’ has some delightful harmonies interwoven with heavy guitars and pounding drums. The vocals on ‘All I Want’ are the best on the EP, Bryn Roberts takes things to another level, passionate and heartfelt, it brings to mind Creed at their best.

These are all very well produced tracks, with a great feel but its the final track that stands out as something a bit special. This Ep has certainly made me want to check out their other albums, there is a touch of Nickelback to their style, these are mainstream commercial rock and should impress even the harder rock fans.
