Tonight’s main support Liv Sin explode on to the stage in a style that only they can. The Swedish 5-
piece are full of swagger as they tear into open track “Godless Utopia”. Formed by singer Liv Jagrell
in 2016 after the break-up of her former band Sister Sin they display all the hallmarks of a classic
Swedish heavy metal band – tight rhythm section, shredding guitars and powerful vocals all
delivered with a flash and flair that you simply don’t find anywhere else.

Liv stalks the stage with ease tonight and her commanding vocal performance has the crowd in the palm of her hand. A
perfect set up for what is to follow. (3/5)

To say that things haven’t been easy for American Head Charge over the years would be an
understatement. Numerous trips in and out of rehab. Band members being fired on stage. An
indefinite hiatus. More line-up changes than you can count. Cancelled tours. And most recently
their drummer and guitarist quitting on the same day. The list goes on and on.

American Head Charge

So it’s almost understandable that sections of the crowd could be forgiven for expecting a disjointed performance
from a band that might fall apart at any time. HOWEVER what those in attendance witnessed
tonight is possibly the best American Head Charge show I’ve ever seen.

This is the most focused and aggressive I’ve seen AHC in many many years. Storming straight out of
the gate with new song “Let All The World Believe” the band look like they are ready to take no
prisoners. Singer Cameron Heacock asks the crowd if they should slow things down a bit before
diving into “Violent Reaction” which gets exactly that from the crowd.

The front quarter of the crowd turns in to a very angry mosh pit and with no security barrier the front row are pressed right up to the stage giving the show a real old school punk vibe, which is only added to when the first
crowd surfers land on the stage only to leap straight back off again.

Tonight is chaos from start to finish. With a set list heavily culled from 2001’s “The War of Art” and
2005’s “The Feeding”. Guitarist Karma Cheema surfs the crowd during the anthemic “All Wrapped
Up” and not to be out done Benji Helberg (now enjoying his second stint with the band) throws
down his guitar and launches himself from the stage straight into the pit during “Pledge Allegiance”.

All the while Cameron marshalls the stage with a presence reminiscent of the late great Layne
Staley. He jokes with the crowd that they will have to sing the next song for him and sure enough
the crowd roar their way through “Loyalty” ably assisting Cameron as required.

New drummer Jeremiah “Major Trauma” Stratton is a sight to behold. With his huge hair and
grin to match, he is a fantastic ball of energy almost to the point where it’s hard to draw your eyes
off of him in case you miss the next manic thing he does behind the kit. Not to mention he is a
fantastic player to boot!!

Of course there is only one way to close an American Head Charge show, the undeniable classic that
is “Just So You Know”. A track that showcases the bands ability to write crushing riffs and allows
Cameron to show off the fantastic range his voice has.

The only down point tonight is the lacking presence of bass playing monolith Chad Hanks who has
had to miss this tour due to personal medical issues.

All in all though, tonight has been an absolute triumph for American Head Charge and will have gone
a long way to proving some of their critics wrong. Hopefully a speedy recovery for Chad will bring
him back to the fold soon and, following that, a return to these shores sometime next year. (4.5)
