What a brilliant Wednesday night treat! It is the highly expected new album launch gig of the Londoners band The Mercy House happening tonight at the Barfly.”A Broken State of Bliss” is available to your ears and it will blow you away!

Described by Kerrang! Radio’s Alex Baker as a band possessing, “Killer riffs, monstrous vocals and more hooks than a slaughterhouse”, London’s powerhouse heavy-rock innovators The Mercy House have spent the last year fighting to bring their music to the masses.

Having won audiences over across the country with their unique brand of alternative heavy rock and one of the most energetic live shows around, the band is now poised to strike at the heart of the rock scene with an iron fist.

After battling against health issues that almost brought the band to the brink of destruction, they return more determined than ever with their debut album; ‘A BROKEN STATE OF BLISS’ through the band’s own label TMH Records and with distribution from Code 7. Carefully crafted during much of last year at The Death Dojo with production team The Picasso Brothers, the album was mixed by Donald Clark (Guns N’ Roses, Korn, Muse) and mastered by Mandy Parnell (Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Björk).

Needless to say they have won Metal Hammer’s Unsigned competition, had one of their tracks featured on Classic Rock magazine’s cover CD, and most recently won the Kerrang Guitar Hero competition.

A trend and scene defying record, it possesses a dark, gritty and visceral post-apocalyptic quality that pioneers what is quickly being labelled as the “black grunge” sound.

The five piece band is composed by Drew on Vocals, any on Guitar, Dan on Lead Guitar, W.R. on Bass and Nick on Drums. Together they are such a delight to watch on stage.

This is what a gig should look like!
With an impressive stage presence, they easily grab the audience attention.

They open with Ask Yourself”, and the powerful vocals of Drew hits you in the face!

On the “Freedom” cover from RATM, a fan gets on stage and propelled himself into a woman. they end up on the floor, and unluckily she gets hurt with a cut on her elbow. After punching the guy back(!) she simply replies “ I f*cking won’t leave the front row spot”! Hail to you sister!

Frontman Drew gets even active outside the stage after saying “Let’s rock it out” and sees him moshing with his fans.

Of course the crowd can’t get enough of them and we are spoiled with one more song, by far my favourite of their album “Inversions”. To introduce it, Niro Knox from King Lizard is getting the crowd together to yell “Hey Hey Hey” with fists in the air.

Those guys are fucking good says someone as we all leave the venue, he even adds “Stick that to Brixton academy”. This must be the best compliment a band can receive!
