Industrial Acts to look out for in 2014 by Dokka Chapman

There’s alot out there if you look hard enough. I’ve been on a mission to find the spirit of the genre, and here’s what I’ve discovered so far…

i!
i!
Don’t be fooled by the enigmatic name, these guys are going to be legends. Hailing from Scotland, this duo are a beautiful mix of mid-90’s industrial, IDM and anything quirky you can find sizzling down the back of a computer tower. Their first album on Armalyte is set to come out this year.

3Teeth
3 Teeth

This fighting force from LA has gotten the scene all in a tizz and every track they have released onto the net has gone mad with applause. The début album comes out in July and already has a host of remixes attached, including a rather naughty one from Aesthetic Perfection. If you like early Ministry, Gritty witch house and that shudder you get when someone walks over your grave, then you will love them!

The Ladder

The Ladder

Addz Millner will be known on the scene in the UK for being the go-to guy if you need back up on your tour. He has played for many an act, including Surgyn. Now he’s here with his own band ‘The Ladder’. A project started in 2006, they have finally started recording and the first EP made quite a stir when it touched base last year. A new EP is in the works and Addz is sure to use his influences worth the trip.

Petrol Bastard
Petrol Bastard

From the North of the UK, Petrol Bastard are making a big noise (literally). With Cyber Punk roots that make you feel you are trapped in a Sheep on Drugs single, this band will make you love to hate them. They quite frankly don’t give a shit who they insult, and do their best to turn peoples’ noses up at every track. The latest album ‘Terrible Problem’ was a boozed up shit storm that fans are loving, and the début from Armalyte is set to come out sometime this year.

PWEI

Pop Will Eat Itself

After coming back in 2011 with their first album in 15 years, the Black Country beasts are back with a new EP and a new lease of life. Back on track and ready to rumble, the band are going to be creating an un-official FIFA track to go up against Gary Barlow and are still fighting the good fight. The new album is set to come out in September, and if it’s anything like the EP ‘Watch the bitch burn’, then be prepared to have your socks knocked off!

Wrapped in Plastic

Wrapped in Plastic

This Midlands based band have gone through many changes in their short life, but have always kept the core values that an industrial act stands for: scare the punters at gigs, create imagery that will make the listener feel like they are on a trip and wear the oddest stuff you can find on stage…..as well as keeping nothing off the table. Their UK tours have become stuff of legends and the new EP is soon to be released.

Kurk DirtKurt Dirt

W.I.P’s new best friend Kurt Dirt is an odd little man. His love of cult horror movies and obscure tunes from the 80’s created a monster only a mother could love. His creative vibe knows no bounds and has just finished his ‘Toilet Tour’, in which he frequented loo’s around the UK, playing his tunes while people pissed!

Dead When I Found Her

Dead When I found Her

This dark one piece wonder has come out of no where and entered our black little hearts. With mute monotone lyrics and spooky scores, DWIFH’s work can best be described as Melancholy scribbles of a Poe like nature. His last release was a rare cassette with some wonderful covers that will blow your mind.

Surgyn

Surgyn

From out of the beauty salon and into the cutting floor, Surgyn have been making waves in the alternative electronic scene for nearly 5 years, and their set at Resistanz 2012 put them firmly on the map. Their second album, entitled ‘Envy’, is going to have a different sound to it’s predecessor, and with a new EP under their garters it looks like this band are only going to get bigger.

Elmo Sexwhistle

Elmo Sexwhistle

Lastly, another Midlands based band who have spent alot of time getting their shit together. After a stunning deut album ‘Major/Minor’, the group have been working overtime for their next release. I was told recently by frontman Alex Juno that there is alot of soul put behind it, and that there will be a few guests and surprises to look forward to. Hearing the opening 30secs of ‘Devlopment’ is like hearing the lovechild of ‘Faith No More’ and ‘Gary Numan’!
