This phenomenal and hugely talented young indie band release their stunning debut EP ‘Play’ on the 20th April.
‘SHY’ was released on 30th March as the first single off this EP. With this track garnering increasing amounts of airplay on BBC Introducing, FlashFires have also now won the Richer Unsigned monthly competition for ‘SHY’, resulting in a free studio time and getting their songs on the playlists of all 55 Richer Unsigned record stores.

“.…. the band strike a perfect balance of eclectic sounds and coherent sound. The EP is definitely indie-alternative, with the muscular sound of Supergrass on steroids, but there are so many different genre vibes splashed all over the place. From the funky bass smattered in ‘Lingo’ to the psychedelic-but-also-oddly-surfer-tinged classic rock guitar feel of ‘You Say Nothing’, you always know what you’re getting but you never know what to expect…… it’s a testament to their artistry and talent that this EP manages to be such a consistently fantastic one from start to finish….with their fondness for experimentalism, their solid musical chemistry and their natural songwriting flair, you can’t expect anything but great things from this band”
FlashFires follow up their twice-released debut ‘Circus Boy’ with a bona fide second single, ‘Shy’. It’s a bold and choppy burst of groove-driven post-punk / indie that evokes bands that follow the trajectory from Orange Juice through Franz Ferdinand and suggests FlashFires themselves are anything but. Nifty and hooky as hell, ‘Shy’ has ‘breakthrough’ written all over it’
“Their music is fast paced, with a funky twist and a surge of energy. They have a great stage presence and they know how to captivate their audiences with jangly guitars, unique vocals, catchy beats and a most definitely fun experience…”
Already with big US & UK management behind them, FlashFires can also count Led Zep’s Jimmy Page amongst their rapidly growing legion of fans after he popped along to see one of their London shows.
18th April, Are You Listening? Festival, Reading
2nd May, Feedback Festival, Fat Fox, Portsmouth
23rd May, Railway, Winchester with Pink Cigar
more shows tbc.
If you haven’t had the chance to check them out yet, they really are a must-see. Having already supported the likes of The Subways, The Rifles, Catfish & The Bottlemen & The Carnabys amongst others, along with their youth, energy and abundance of talent, this bunch of 19 year old Basingstoke boys are going to be making a huge impact on the music scene in the coming months!
