The Pussies are in town, come on in and join the party!!

This American Southern Rock & Roll band from Georgia are back and this time they hold their show at The Underworld. They are joined by The Grand Mal and Worry Blast. Unfortunately I miss the opening band The Grand Mal as I arrive during the last seconds of their set, but judging by the audience applause, I for sure missed something.

Time for Worry Blast to come on stage.

The band from Switzerland is fronted by rhythm guitarist Mat Petruci, with Dann Collaud on bass/backing vocals, Allan Claret as lead guitarist and drummer Lucas Collaud.

wb1

Their skilled Hard Rock sound got them quite popular very fast, they even opened for Scorpions. Tonight they are on top form, unleashing their powerful riffs, as well as solid vocals.

wb2

Despite coming from Switzerland, this band is anything but neutral.

wb6

Mat Petruci tells us “I hope you like Rock & Roll, ’cause that’s the only thing we know to do”, and they do it goddam well.

wb5

We are also asked to sing along, rendering our best “oh oh oooohhhh” line! By the end of their set, drummer Lucas Collaud jumps from his seat and then shoots $100 bills on the audience with a plastic gun. Too bad they are fake!

Nashville Pussy have been out on the road to promote and celebrate their new compilation CD called “Ten Years Of Pussy”- ten years working with SPV/Steamhammer  records. The CD included 16 studio tracks from their previous releases and a bonus live CD recorded in 2009 during their Nottingham performance. So tonight we are treated to their best songs, of which the  lyrical content revolves around drugs, sex, rock and roll, alcohol etc. My kind of stuff really!

They open with “Come On Come On” and straight away the room fills up with energy, beer, whiskey and sweat!

18

Frontman and rhythm guitar Blaine Cartwright hasn’t changed one bit since I last saw him play a couple of years ago! Still true to himself, he goes on drinking whiskey on stage and beer from his hat!

22

He is married to guitarist extraordinaire Ruyter Suys, a flamboyant, blond curly haired hot woman!

13

She stills plays great, blurts out strong and catchy riffs, whilst headbanging and kneeling on the floor.

29

Nothing can stop this woman from playing. “High As Hell” still holds my heart, and it is always a pleasure to see this song live. There has been a few changes of bassist over the years, but this role is now in the hands of Bonnie Buitrago.

26

She is a great fit for the band in my opinion, she plays energetically, as well as keeping stage presence despite the fury of Ruyter.

Drummer Jeremy Thompson doesn’t seemed phased by all the activity on stage. I think he’ s enjoying the show, only it’s hard to tell with his round sunglasses!

9

Fans are loving it, singing along to most of the songs, dancing and drinking!

It is a shame to see the band head off the stage, it was one of those nights you wish could last wayyyyy longer. It is off to the bar I go and drown my sorrows!
