Jim – Everything
4. Oud en vet
Hailing from Belgium, Ande are a one man atmospheric black metal band.
This instantly appeals to me before I listen to it based on the cover art alone. A painting of a wizened old man sat amongst bones with wisps of smoke makes me think of Burzum.
There’s perhaps good reason for that because from the moment that the short but sweet intro finishes, the raw and slightly claustrophobic black metal comes in with both fury and atmosphere and again I’m reminded of Burzum.
This has a more earthy tone to it than the harsh and pure evil of Burzum, but it’s a very clear influence on Ande’s sound. Think also Wolves in the Throne Room and Drudkh and hopefully you get the idea.
There are melancholic doom-like melodies creeping in and out, weaving between the layers of thick walled guitar fuzz, thunder pummelling drums and abrasive screams.
I really like this album and would recommend it if you are a fan of Burzum, WITTR and Drudkh. It is an atmospheric and bleak journey and I will be checking out future Ande releases.
