Colombia, most famous for it’s exportation of, well apparently Petroleum according to the latest reports from the OEC, not any kind of product that is overly amazing in itself, and most certainly not that famous marching powder that you probably thought I was going to say. That stuff is illegal and therefore cannot be considered and export, so there.
Now we have that out of the way, This four piece who on good information, (Themselves, about as good as you can get) like to refer to themselves as Dark Metal. Blackened Death Power Metal is how their label likes to define them, so I will let you be the judge. For mine they incorporate many a style but this is their vision so let them call it whatever they may, the music is more than capable of speaking for itself.
After an intro that made me think I was about to hear another album of Symphonic Folky type stuff, SinnerAngel pretty much burst headlong into some raw sounding old school rip your head off and shit down the hole that’s left there Metal. The Guitar work in particular at it’s most complex even reminding me a tad of very early Destruction if they had one day decided that Black Metal was going to be their next thing, yes that’s a big call but I am quite prepared to stick by it, if you don’t believe me try “Abysmal Visions” and “Fuego En Mi Alma” for starters. I personally would have thrown a bit of Thrash in the label description, they certainly have mastered the art of bludgeoning their strings to death.
To not mention the rest of the band would be a crime. The Rhythm section makes no slouch of itself holding down this mass of riffing, melody and solo’s, so much so that I had a hard time believing that only one Guitarist was involved, and the Vocals of Gustavo, even though in Spanish, get the point across perfectly, sometimes a little low in the mix but very sinister indeed, more of a mid to low range style, sometimes even Banshee like but always fitting.
Great stuff from Colombia, not the white stuff, the right stuff. Metal at it’s finest.
