One of the driving forces of gothic rock and post-punk in Finland in the new millennium, Kuudes Silmä have had a long break from recording. Previous works have appeared on the defunct Combat Rock Industry label, and now, Svart Records welcomes the group into the fold with their second full-length album Pelko.

So, I have no idea what the hell they are singing about, but the passion bursts through the language barrier of them singing in their native tongue. The band plays hard and with so much emotion that it captivates you as soon as you listen to them play. The vocals are rough, but the edgy music playing fits perfectly and you get thrown back to the time when post-punk was the big thing. The thick bass guitar and the pounding drums mesh together so well and the guitar playing has the right amount of grit.

The powerful songs just keep getting better as you listen to the album, with no letdown or drop in energy. The synth adds just enough atmosphere to the songs, without becoming obtrusive or too poppy. The band has more of a punk edge to them than just the post-punk bands that you usually hear from which gives this release an extra push into being a classic.

This was a definite surprise for me since I had no idea what to expect when I got this sent to me, it’s always a treat to have something grab you and make you a fan right away. You need this like you need air…get this one now!
