Review

When I put this record on I was expecting a rather aggressive Riot Grrrl album but instead of gory screams about women’s suffering we had some atmospheric drones of bloodstained escapades put to music.

To put it bluntly, this band are obsessed with genre cinema, especially low budget horrors and splatterpunk and it’s excellent seeing a female fronted band put out such concepts as it shows such entertainment is for all.

Tracks “Maniac” and “I Spit on Your Grave” take traditional metal riffs and melodies and form an edge of horror themes that would warm the hearts of a Horror Punk maniac. Imagine if The Misfits teamed up with 45 Grave to make some Sludge Metal.

Slow tempos and fuzzy lo-fi mixes populate the tracks and the change in vocal melodies make the tunes sway from side to side in an audible wind.

Overall its an impressive record but on a personal level i felt it lacked a bit of the punch that makes the music leap out at me. This is an enjoyable record and worthy of much praise, but would I listen to it again? Probably not.

That might be because horror themes don’t interest me as much these days but I felt this band had a lot of potential to do something very angry and I didn’t quite get that from Kamera Obscura. But do please check this one out if you like slow tempo pieces of Alternative Metal which carry with them a nice level of pain and suffering if that’s what makes your nerves tingle with delight.
