Review:

This band from Houston, Texas has a heavy and pounding sound with operatic and cookie monster vocals. Starting back in 2011 and now releasing their third album, this band has a lot riding on it, with tons of interest and fans waiting for it. But does it make the grade?

As I put it on, I hear operatic vocals, chugging, overloud guitars and my nemesis… cookie monster vocals. I plod through the album, trying to get past the things that drive me crazy and all of a sudden, I hear a bunch of great songs, “The Banished Heart,” “The Watcher,” “Howl of the Rougarou,” “Her in the Distance,” “No Color, No Light,” and  “Wayfaring Stranger.” These songs are what made me give it a passing grade. No cookie monster vocals, beautiful playing, sweet vocals, the emotions that are coming from these songs are just amazing. That is what I really was hoping for and they scored in spades. The production on most of the album is not bad, just turn the guitar down.

I can’t say that this is something that I will ever listen all the way through again, but for almost half the album, we have a winner! If only they would do an entire record like those songs I enjoyed… I can dream I guess.
