Review:

Finish outfit ‘Dark Bhudda Rising’ have been going for a decade, although I have to say I was unaware of them before. Seemingly as much an occult ritual as a musical group, they describe themselves thus:

“To roil in the sounds of the underground, to meet dark spirits, to breathe in time with rhythmic pulses sent from the skies, the stars and the very dirt around them. On its face, the band emits the blackest of psychedelia; deep down, theirs are sounds forged in the blue fires of the ancients — exhalations of gods, goddesses and demons alike.”

This isn’t a bad description, to be honest. This two track EP is a dark, moody work that straddles the line between metal and ambient. Repetitive riffs underlie shamanic style chanting, which envelops you for over 15 minutes per track.

If you’re looking for catchy melodies and lyrics then you’ll need to look elsewhere. But for fans of things like Psychic TV there is a lot to offer here. Is it a timeless work? I don’t think so, but then I’m not sure that was their intention in the first place. This is immersive and requires multiple listens, rewarding with a little bit more each time.
