Review

Italian band REDRUM04 have created an interesting album reminiscent of early 2000’s nu-metal with a modern twist on core-metal.

After listening to two songs it was very apparent to me that this band has an early to mid-2000s emo/core metal and hard rock vibe that fans of Papa Roach would really enjoy. Vocally the singer even sounds a little like Jacoby Shaddix. There are elements of plenty of other well-known bands as well, such as A Day To Remember, Biffy Clyro, as well as elements of Avenged Sevenfold, Asking Alexandria and Fall Out Boy. Very subtly in the songs melodies, you can hear hints of Staind.

The album itself has very diverse elements in its music. For example, track 6, “Of Lights and Shadows” is very different from the next track, “Wake Up”. You’ll notice that the pitch, tone, tempo and even vocals are very different from each other. For me, my standout track and favourite on the album would be track 9, “New Day”, because of the use of melodies and harmonies. The song is engaging, emotional and very well constructed. Vocally and musically, this song brings out the best elements that this band has to offer and is a song you must listen to.

Truthfully, I haven’t listened to any music of this genre in a long time. Mostly because nothing has caught my attention in that scene for a long while. REDRUM04 have done the total opposite, however, and made sure I ate out of the palm of their hands, gripping my attention throughout the album.
