From the Southwestern coast of Finland comes Pelagos, which consists of people who used to play in Circle in the 90’s. However, the new group differs by substituting heavy metal riffs with digital synthesizer sequencing.

If you are into atmospheric, almost gothic sounding broody music, this is for you. It has a few touches of ’80s sounds mixed in, but mostly the bass and mood makes it feel that way. The vocals are airy but emotional and add to the overall effect of the songs. The playing is great, lots of talent on display and it gives off a great feeling that gets into your head and lifts you up and floats with you. Some of this reminds me of Japan and how they gave the same sounds to their music. The songs all seem to fit into each other and give the effect of a solid idea.

If you are looking for a moody album that hints at Japan and their type of sound mixed with some gothic leanings, this is the one for you. I really enjoyed what they are doing on here and I’m looking forward to hearing more of their music in the future.
