Review

Nullifer and Candy Bones have been working together musically since 2004 when they formed the industrial metal band, Spectrum-X. After releasing 3 studio albums via Darkest Labyrinth and TraumaFactor labels the couple launched their side project, Wraithrest, formally Abaddon, in early 2017. A blackened death metal band with occult and satanic lyrics and themes.

Path ov the Raven is their first album and standing at 7 tracks doesn’t mess about or overstay its welcome. Normally I’m not a huge fan of thrashy satanic black metal but the first cords of opening track Azazel grab my attention as I can hear the death metal straight away in the guitar.
Nullifer’s vocals are still thrashy traditional black metal but it’s the interesting mix of old school black metal, death and a bit of doom tossed in for good measure that keeps me interested.

Athame, track 3, is a stand out track for me as the band slow it down and bring on the doom with a nasty riff and groove to it that gets my head nodding and swaying. This theme runs into Do Ut Des, track 4 and builds on the concept.

Mark Ov Emptiness, track 4, kicks off with a meaty death riff and mixes and blends perfectly, kinda reminding me of Dark Fortress in my opinion. And its a solid finish to a well-produced album with inventive compositions and lovely guitar work.

I’m really impressed with this release, watch out for them…
