REVIEW:

Coming out of the Ukraine with their 7th release and 3rd EP ‘Lingua’, Azathoth Circle brings a great blend of heavy, dark metal with a bit of Eastern European flavour. It’s a short EP with only 3 songs. The band has a distinct sound based on the works of HP Lovecraft.

Vocalist Alex Mononoke shows great versatility with beautiful clean singing and deep guttural screaming. Paired with melodic and chugging guitar riffs, ritualistic drumming and deep resonating bass. They definitely fall into a more alternative and melodic death metal sound. The vocals are powerful and prominent even in the heavier portions of the songs. I felt the vocals resonated well in each part of the song and they just fit so well with the music and style.

All 3 songs are enjoyable and overall from start to finish this is a well polished, mixed and mastered album. It left me hoping for more. My favourite song on this EP is Affectum Timoris. It starts with some nice grooving guitar riffs and then just gets right to business. It’s heavy, melodic and full of energy. It would be certain to have the crowds at a live gig jumping and the pit thrashing. I really recommend them and to check out their earlier works as well. I give this a 4 out of 5.
