Review:

Experimental progressive rock/metal group Althea are back with a new line-up, a clarity of concept and an evolution of sound on their new album The Art of Trees, released worldwide via Sliptrick Records.

Straight off the bat, the album opens with what feels like an overture, sampling lots of different tones and rhythms throughout the track like a precursor to what the rest of the album offers.

The album is an interesting one, each track has a very different feel about it and is an impressive audible display from an eclectic and prolific band.

Each number fits within the prog genre, but their places on the spectrum vary as the level of experimentation shifts, which makes for some hits and some misses for me. For each track that I thoroughly enjoy there’s another that doesn’t quite hit the mark, but overall it’s an interesting experience and prog fans should find plenty to enjoy.
