Review:

Baltimore sludge/grind Addicts MUSKET HAWK release their long-awaited third album, Upside of Sick, on March 29th on Unholy Anarchy Records.

Some big sludgy sounds right off the bat with the opening track taking no time to get straight into crashing drums and big riffs. Each of the six tracks has huge swings in tempo to keep the listener on their toes, from doom/sludge straight to death metal and grind tones in the blink of an eye. The speed shifts don’t seem to affect the level of aggression though as there is a consistently high level throughout the album.

It packs plenty of punches, with tonnes of heavy energy blasting out. The album manages to crossover a few subgenres so fans of grindcore, punk, death metal, blackened sludge, and probably plenty of other subgenres will find something to sink their teeth into here.

My only gripe is that it’s quite a short album, six tracks with a total runtime of 25 minutes. But it is all killer, without any fluff or unnecessary interludes, just straight up destructive tones and disgusting vibes! Even the longest number, the 7-minute long Uncouth, does not pause for breath at any point.
