Canada has a long a fruitful history of metal, with world-famous bands in every metal sub-genre, and it seems the new band to become the country’s best in the world of Blackened Death Metal has been discovered.

Unburnt, all the way from Montreal and Hanover grace the airwaves with their debut EP Arcane Evolution, which I can tell you is nothing short of a masterpiece.

I was heavily reminded of Skeletonwitch and Satanic Assault Division with this release, it is a tome of darkened and satanic themes, freshly torn asunder from the mouth of hell. Galloping across scorched earth after a nuclear bomb has hit is how I’d describe the guitar works of Bo Louther.

The musicianship is nothing short of pristine, combining precision blast beats with decent death metal breakdowns. The vocals also reminded me of Deicide multiple times, so an excellent combination of the classics to make one hell of a record. Eric Burnet is emulating the best of the best for this band to rise high alongside bands like the aforementioned Skeletonwitch or even the UK’s Blasphemy.

In all, this is 13 minutes of satanic bliss which you’re not going to be able to turn off after you put it on. Canada once shines bright again in the extreme metal universe.
