Review

From Finland is a band who have been best known for creating music that “invites all the arsonists and smokers to hold hands” according to the band’s motto, which they surely did deliver in plenty of tracks.

The release is first introduced by agonising vocals accompanied by a slow steady beat. This is later followed by synthesisers and amplified rhythms. In the track “Tyhjyyden sakramentti” we can sense the cosmological influences, and the production later installs grooves into the track along with more unpredictable changes.

As you progress further into the album, you are met with long periods of repetitive rhythms which would almost last an entire track. There were also moments of calmness and charm coming from some of these rhythms.

Personally, I feel this album is a perfect streaming option when you’re in an authentic mood or an imaginative vibration. However, this is not a release for which I would go out of my way to recommend or purchase and that is due to a difference in my personal music preference in regards to black metal subgenres. On a personal note, I have found it difficult to resonate with long instrumental sections, improvisations and certain electronic sound effects. Oranssi Pazuzu as a band are very notable in the psychedelic black metal genre and I am most definitely certain that regular listeners of this subgenre will have their ears satisfied, depending on personal taste.
