Greek black metal group, Enshadowed, are close to releasing their 4th full-length album, “Stare into the Abyss”, on the 30th of June 2020, through Odium Records.

Hey and thanks for your time today! Let’s start from the beginning; what is the meaning behind the band name ‘Enshadowed’ and what made you use it?

The meaning is simple, music covered by shadows and absolute darkness.

You formed in 1998, what keeps you going so long in the music industry and how do you think it’s changed?

The motivation is simple; we are still here because of our passion for music.

Nowadays, music is like fast food. There are a lot of releases out there without soul, total digital and with ridiculous neo-satanic philosophy. I really prefer the old era and I hope that the bands will return to the roots of this damned cold music.

You’ve recently released your 4th album ‘Stare Into the Abyss’, what makes this album different to your previous releases?

It’s an album full of inspiration, without editing, a real performance. You can feel the vibrations of the music. We are proud of this result.

What the concept and meaning behind the name ‘Stare into the Abyss’?

“Stare Into the Abyss” is an esoteric vision about the journey to death with many meanings; a completed opus against the illusion of afterlife and elitism of human being.

As you’ve spent most of your life in bands if you weren’t able to, what profession do you think you would’ve done instead?

It’s true, but music for us is an artistic path, not a job. All the members have another type of work. Personally, I am lucky because I work as a sound engineer at Descent studio.

Is there anyone you’d like to collaborate with, be it an artist/photographer or producer?

As a sound engineer, I have the opportunity and the knowledge to work in my own professional place. So, we don’t have a need to collaborate with anyone.

What is the procedure of producing a new album/EP? Do you have a set way of doing things?

With this album, we did pre-production. This worked well for us and this is the way that we will follow in the future.

Do you think image is important when being in a band, especially being in the Black Metal genre?

Everything is important. First of all the music & lyrics, secondly the layout/image/logo. An album is an artist creation in many parts.

Do you have a favourite track from the album? If so, why?

Yes, “The Great Animist” is an amazing track.

Where do you draw your influences from when it comes to producing new music/lyrics?

Influences come from everywhere. I am open to listening to music from different genres. Lyrics is the part of Serpent (vocalist).

How do you think the music industry has changed over the years? Is there anything you would’ve done differently and what advice would you give someone wanting to start a black metal band?

There are a lot of releases out there without reason of existence. If you want to start a black metal band, avoid social media. Find yourself; explore your esoteric darkness and begin.

You’ve played with some amazing bands over the years, such as; Mayhem, Dodheimsgard, Impaled Nazarene, Dark Funeral, Nargaroth. Do you have any favourite nights that stand out or favourite memories of gigging?

We have a big respect to Mayhem, so this was a special gig for us. In the other hand, the live show with Nargaroth in Germany was cool.

How has COVID-19 pandemic affected you personally, as well as professionally? And what are your plans for when touring restrictions have been lifted?

We don’t have touring plans, so the effect was just on a personal level. It was a nice period to create more music.

What do you like to do outside of music? Any hobbies?

Many things.

If you could choose 3 favourite bands/albums, what would they be and why?

These are three of our big influences, “Under The Sign Of The Black Mark” , “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” & “Hvis Lyset Tar Oss”.

Thank you for your time, is there anything you’d like to say to our readers?

The 4th album of Enshadowed “Stare Into the Abyss” is now a fact. We are proud about our collaboration with Odium Records. After 22 years of existence and non-stop activity, a powerful album full of creativity completed. So, it’s time for all of us to stare into the Abyss.. into the Darkness.. into the pure Death.
